SwiftZap is a walk-thru hand sanitiser unit that keeps people moving in high-traffic areas without causing queues or congestion, as there is no need to pause for the sanitising mist to be dispensed. The unit works in both directions, spraying on the left and right sides, meaning it’s flexible and accessible for all ages and abilities, even if carrying a bag or holding a phone. Arup used Oasys MassMotion for a simulation exercise in an office lobby and rail station environment, analysing the capacity for the SwiftZap units to be installed in such environments. The results provided SwiftZap with the confidence that the units would have minimal impact on capacity of these spaces. Revisions saw that placing the units in locations with high-levels of usage had minimal impact compared to stop-and-go units. The outputs illustrate to future users and purchasers of the units that the high-capacity element of the SwiftZap units would provide benefits to the deployment of stop-and-go units both from an operational and space planning perspective.
